After taking course after course that focused on a quick, one install for any and all clients, make a lot of money, and repeat… I never felt right about offering extensions. The risks seemed so high on finer haired clients, with no customization or trouble shooting available it felt like a scam. A scam on vulnerable women with insecurities seeking any solution “at any cost”.
As an industry I believe there should be more.
More honesty before just saying yes for the $$. More value for the clients scalp, even if it means referring them elsewhere. More options for placements, methods, hair, colors etc.

At 19 turning 20 I was at the end of my rope, I was ready to quit hair. I had so many bad experiences with mentors and bosses screwing me over and using me it killed my passion. If it wasn’t for one mentor grabbing my sobbing face after a horrible staff meeting with my boss telling me to chair rent before I throw in the towel…. I don’t think I would be here. I would have quit hair and left what I thought to be the worst job ever.
Now I get to walk into a thriving happy salon everyday, with gals who love their jobs and support each other. That's what this industry is capable of. It can support women of all ages and not just the stylists, our job is so beyond that. We get to be there for our clients in ways no one else gets to. This means the clients experience should be protected equally to your stylists environment. If your salon environment is toxic women won’t feel safe to unwind and recharge.
This is the passion behind what VF stands for. As a Christian in business there’s more in it for me than just the revenue. Women get to come and cry with us, unload their burdens, feel beautiful, feel seen, this is what drives us all in the beginning! The connection with women and making them feel beautiful and loved.
